Victim Impact Classes

Victim Impact Classes are designed to provide juveniles on probation with an opportunity to accept responsibility for their harmful actions, personalize the offense, and develop an understanding of the impact their crime had on the victim(s), the victim’s family and friends, and the greater community.  Regularly scheduled classes educate offenders about the emotional, physical, psychological and financial impact their crimes have on victims.  The goal of the classes is to hold the offender accountable and develop their awareness and empathy for the victim. Victim panels may be convened to provide offenders with a strong experience of how their behavior affected others.  Empathy training, utilizing group instruction, video and journaling exercises, and reconciliation conferencing, facilitated sessions between victim and offender, may be included in a juvenile’s program.
