Crisis
Services
Emergency Shelter Services males and females ages 0 to 21
who are in need of sanctuary and counseling. Services are available in a
group home or an individual "warm" home setting.
Hale 'Opio provides crisis stabilization bed
and brief therapy in cooperation with the Kaua'i Family Guidance Center (KFGC)
when out-of-home placement is recommended by the psychiatrist to resolve crisis
and reunite the youth with their family/community. The Crisis Services Manager
determines, in consultation with the KFGC psychiatrist, the most appropriate
services and setting, either individual or group, and area of the island for
consumer crisis residential services. Specially licensed family homes (FHTS)
across the island provide structure, supervision and therapeutic interventions
as does a therapeutic living group program with a shelter component including
24 hour awake staffing who provide intense one-on-one supervision.
The full range of services of a freestanding
emergency shelter program with procedures for safe behavior management is
available to the consumer. Any child in psychiatric crisis is eligible for
services with the goal of stabilizing the consumer and returning them to their
family or community rather than a hospital setting.
